Important Birthdays:
- Reaching age 50 during the year (allows for catch up contributions to retirement plans)
- Reaching age 55 (allows for 401(k) distributions, without the 10% penalty, to participants currently terminating employment, specific requirements must be met)
- Reaching age 59 1/2 (allows for IRA, annuity, and retirement plan distributions without penalty)
- Reaching age 60, if widowed (allows for start of widow/widower benefits from Social Security)
- Reaching age 62 (allows for start of early Social Security benefits)
- Reaching age 65 (allows for enrollment in Medicare and drug plan)
- Reaching age 65-67 (allows for Full Retirement benefits from Social Security)
- Reaching age 70 (maximum Social Security benefits)
- Reaching age 72 (mandatory Required Minimum Distributions for those born before 1/1/1951)
- Reaching age 73 (mandatory Required Minimum Distributions for those born between 1/1/1951 and 12/31/1957)
- Reaching age 75 (mandatory Required Minimum Distributions for those born 1/1/1958 or later)
