- Reaching age 50 during the year (allows for catch up contributions to retirement plans)

- Reaching age 59 1/2 (allows for IRA, annuity, and retirement plan distributions without penalty)
- Reaching age 60, if widowed (allows for start of widow/widower benefits from Social Security)
